‘PHYGITAL ME’ - a Physical Digital Artwork
‘Phygital Me’ explores the space between physical and digital art, posing from the question asked by Vogue: What is physical art when you grew up on the internet?
Created during a pivotal moment in my artistic journey, this piece reflects my search to bridge the tangible and digital worlds. Inspired by the pandemic's shift in creative perspectives, I began experimenting with a new medium that I thought could engage well in exploring our digital perception of reality.
This transition into ‘phygital art’ was my response to a future that felt increasingly virtual. With the initial rise of NFTs, I wanted to create pieces that viewers could feel and interact with - art that resonates physically and digitally with a futuristic edge. Made with an old 3D programme called Bryce 3D, this work is a continuation of my fascination with old technology, directly inspired by a 3D render from Hiroe Takahashi’s Mac de Design Vol. 2 (1997), which used the same program 25 years ago.
Phygital Me continues my mission to bridge traditional and contemporary mediums, incorporating tools like hologram fans and an Xbox Kinect camera. This piece represents my vision for a new kind of art that balances the immersive, tangible experience of the physical with the evolving possibilities of digital innovation.
